Name: Kelly Brinkman
Location: St Louis Park, MN
Age: 32
Weekly Mileage: 80-110, depending on stage of training cycle
Favorite Race and/or Distance: Half marathon, fo sho!
Favorite Running Pump-up Songs: anything by Eminem, maybe some Lady Gaga if I’m feeling sassy
Favorite Post Race Meal or Treat: Hmm, no go to meals or treats that I can think of. If I have a good race, there might be a celebratory margarita the evening after the run, but not much else comes to mind.
PRs:
5K - 16:03
10K - Can we take my split from other races?! I've only done one 10K since working with Ron, and it's not that impressive - 35:50 (in the snow in WBL two winters ago). I think my 10K split this last weekend was 34!
10 Mile - 58:57 (bad!) I don't mean to be a diva, but I'm trying to make sure people see how well Ron's workouts have worked for me, and this time is not indicative of that. I think I've only done on ten miler ever, the Kowalski's run in November two years ago in White Bear Lake. I've had better splits in longer races since then!
Half marathon - 1:11:33
Marathon - 2:45:15
15K - 52:15
8K - 26:33
7 mile - 40:51
Something about Coach Ron and/or Mile To Marathon:
Where do I start?! Hahahahahahaha. I am so glad I found Coach Ron. It was (and sometimes still is) difficult for me to give up control of my running; I am so passionate about it. But Coach understands my passion and not only that, but he cares just as much as I do about reaching my goals. There are days when I look at my workout and think, “What in the world? Is he crazy?” but he realizes even better than I do, what I’m capable of and believes in pushing my limits physically and mentally to make me the best I can possibly be. When I step on the line, there are no doubts that I’ve done everything I can to get the best result. That sense of trust is essential! What more could you want from a coach?! The other thing I truly appreciate is that Coach is the first to help celebrate a good race, never expecting to be acknowledged for how much he contributed to the effort. And when things go poorly, he’s the first to step in and accept responsibility and work with you to make sure it never happens again. Pretty amazing.
